In my intro thread I hinted that I had just started an unusual railway project, and here it is, based upon the water-balanced funicular railway on the Leas Cliff at Folkestone: Folkestone Cliff RailwayI am attempting to recreate the lift in 4mm scale, but therein lies the first hurdle, the gauge is 1.778m so I have had to do some modifications to a couple of lengths of Peco track in order to widen it to 23mm. But now the tricky bit. I'm not going to electrify the tracks, rather I intend to operate the lifts exactly as the prototype, that is by water power. I will have a reservoir tank at the top of the structure being replenished at intervals which will fill the tank of the car at the top of the cliff, which then runs to the bottom under gravity. I shall upload some WIP shots very soon. Wish me luck!

The main baseboard has been marked out and tracklaying has begun. In the photo you can see the various stages of progress with the track. The left track is a length of standard 00 gauge Peco Streamline and the right track shows the jigs in use to trim the sleepers to length and to assemble the rails to the correct scale gauge of 23mm. More to come shortly. John.
