New London motor show set for 2016
A traditional motor show is set to return to London in May 2016, HRH Prince Michael of Kent has revealed. The goal is to make the show "to rank alongside cities like Geneva and Frankfurt". The show, early plans for which are already under way, is set to take place at Battersea Park from 5-8 May 2016. "Manufacturers are being invited now to attend," Prince Michael said. London's new motor show would have a big emphasis on electric and hybrid vehicles, Prince Michael said, and also a focus on road safety and education. Speaking at the Guild of Motoring Writers' annual dinner, Prince Michael said the show would compliment shows like the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Motorexpo at Canary Wharf rather than rival them. He added: "It is right that London should have a show to rank alongside cities like Geneva and Frankfurt." The new motor show has no involvement of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), which promoted the official British motor show that last ran at London's Excel in 2008. “SMMT and its members have no plans to revive the British International Motor Show," said a spokesman. "However, we are aware that there are a number of other UK shows that will take place, as is the case each year.” FULL STORY AT - www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motor-shows/new-london-motor-show-set-2016
